A Year at the Switchbacks

I’ve brought my camera to three of J.P.’s races at the switchbacks. The first was in September of 2010 where Skip the master-creator of “Turn” Re-Skatable decks (found only at Rip City) set up cones to jam in between. Then Casey and Billy had some narrative fun at the end there.

The second time was in April and consisted of four to five man heats where the racers were only allowed one push from the start.

Then most recently J.P. mashed the eighty or so people together into eight heats aming for a sadistic race.

The next race is scheduled for March, check pdxdownhill.com in a few weeks for the details. If you hadn’t noticed only four people are ever at the top: Casey, Billy, Chip, and Robyn, but lucky for us slowpokes Billy Casey and Robyn are forced to skate switch by J.P. next time around. Watch out for Chip, he must be counting the days, hungry for victory.
